OSHA, or Occupational Safety and Health Administrations is the government body assigned to regulate workplace safety. From 1989 to 2002 the Silvi brothers, owners of Gibraltar Rock have had approximately 20 violations. OSHA categorized most of these violations as "Serious" and many are related to hazardous silica (quartz) dust. When you click the following links you will be taken to the OSHA website, you will no longer be on the Ban the Quarry website. Use your browser's "Back" button to return to Ban the Quarry. This OSHA page shows a list of all violations. When you get to this OSHA web page, click the number in the table under "Activity Nr" to read about the violations. This OSHA page is a specific violation for silica dust. Silica dust is associated with silicosis, a severe respiratory illness. This information was provided by the Trestle Bridge Business Park community organization in Downingtown, PA. They are also fighting a proposed Silvi concrete plant. |
