THE GOOD NEWS At the May 11 Township Supervisor's meeting, the supervisors told the packed crowd at the Hope Community Church that they have decided to not continue the present proposed settlement agreement that has been the under discussion for the last few months. They said that resident comments, emails, and letters sent to the supervisors were strongly against this agreement and so they decided to stop negotiations with Gibraltar Rock on the proposed settlement agreement. This does not mean the end of the quarry, it simply means that the supervisors will not pursue the current proposed agreement. They also mentioned that the Zoning Hearing Board would again begin hearings on GR2 and GR3. (See BAD NEWS). The Paradise Watchdogs wish to thank all residents who attended the May 11th meeting. THE BAD NEWS Updated 5/17/09 - Because the GR1 application has already been approved by the Zoning Hearing Board, Mr. Harris, attorney for Gibraltar Rock, told the crowd at Hope Community Church that the Silvi Group will begin quarrying operations on GR1 as soon as June. What our Zoning Hearing Board actually approved (in 2007) was operations on the Heavy Industrial zone (HI) only, they denied quarrying on the Light Industrial zone (LI), and gave Gibraltar 42 restrictions to the operation (over and above the DEP requirements). Gibraltar Rock didn’t like this zoning board decision and is appealing to the Court of Common Pleas (still pending). That leaves the question . . . does Gibraltar Rock now LIKE the zoning board’s decision of 2007?
