If you live on Church Road, Colflesh Road, Houseman, Hoffmansville, or Little Roads, you are probably already aware that your home and/or business is close to 50+ acres of residential-zoned land that was bequeathed to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and intended for construction of a high school. With the threat of a quarry, asphalt plant and concrete plant across the road, the Archdiocese cancelled their plans. You may also be aware that the Archdiocese has made an ‘agreement of sale’ with Gibraltar Rock, Inc. who would like to “mine” all of those 50 acres (minus the required setbacks). Our township now agrees with the area residents and the Paradise Watchdogs that this residential land “should not be handed over to Gibraltar Rock”. The township Zoning Hearing Board resumed meetings on June 4, to discuss this residential land and consider the quarry’s proposal. The meeting only lasted 15 minutes because the quarry attorney, Steve Harris, noted an error in his application and wishes to correct it before proceeding. The next meeting on this GR3 application will be held on Thursday, July 2. The Zoning Board announced this as a “tentative date”. We will call some of you when we have a definite date; you may also check this website for an update, or you may call us for information: 610-754-6788 (Jeanette) or 610-754-6374 (Celeste) If you wish to protect your rights, health, quality of life, and property values, please come out to the July meeting! At the next meeting, we will ask the zoning board to allow residents to sign up for “party status”. That means any resident with property near this land, and within one mile, can sign up as an interested party. Then, during the zoning hearings, you will be informed when you will have the opportunity to ask questions and make comments regarding this proposal, if you wish to do so. If you sign up the township and our Zoning Board will get a clear message that we want this land to remain residential zoning. |
