The following is not a verbatim transcript of the Zoning Hearing Board meeting; it is simply one person’s summary of the major points made by those involved in the hearing process. For that reason, quotation marks are not used unless a direct quote was recorded. For information about obtaining an official ZHB transcript, contact the New Hanover Township office. This meeting was boring beyond endurance, but nonetheless very significant. This meeting was the first of a series of shots by Harris in an attempt to shoot down William Flederbach’s (New Hanover Township's Air Quality Experts) testimony regarding air quality and dust dispersion. The strategy seems to be that if you make it boring and tedious to the point where no one is listening, then when the conclusions are laid on the table, no one will have sufficient vitality and alertness to challenge what is said. Harris’s witness was D. Bruce Turner, now, after 49 years of employment, is a Senior Technical Assistant with Trinity Consultants of Chapel Hill, N.C. Rather than summarize his presentation, the reader is referred to the end point, namely several reports and conclusions that were distributed at the very end of the meeting. Copies are available at the township building. Bill Flederbach was in attendance. He and Bob Brant will now be prepared for Mr. Turner’s return engagement which will be early November. In the meantime a second air quality expert will be presented. Here is my summary of what Mr. Turner did not say but implied. Dust, what dust? If you put wet clothes on a line next to the stone crusher, by the time the clothes dry they will be cleaner than when they were put up. |
