December 11, 2003 -
Community Meeting
On December 11, at 7:30 in the Boyertown Area Jr. High - East, the Paradise Watchdogs meet with interested community members about the issues and opportunities presented by the DEP's recent letter to Gibraltar Rock, Inc., in which the DEP listed 44 application deficiencies. John Zuchero, past president of Paradise Watchdogs, opened the meeting with a summary of the zoning hearing so far and a listing of what the Watchdogs have done to work with the township to ban the quarry. Current president, Roger Buchanan then explained the 44 deficiencies and also explained DEP's position on each. Mr. Buchanan passed out copies of the DEP's deficiency letter and also copies of an air quality report that he wrote and sent to the DEP. He then explained how the residents could help. He explained his concept of "action teams"---groups of interested citizens making a difference by working on issues related to our quality of life. Eric Doviak, an aid to PA Senator Rob Wonderling, spoke about the senator's position against the quarry. Doviak concluded by saying that even if the quarry were permitted to open, the senator would make sure DEP is vigilant in monitoring its operation. For more information about the action teams and what they plan to do, please email us. Tell us the best way to reach you and we will get back to you immediately.
