Recent Telephone Surveys --- have you been called?

Most, if not all, residents surrounding the proposed Gibraltar Rock quarry have been receiving phone calls from a company identifying themselves as SP Net Research.  The survey caller initially announces that he/she is conducting an economic survey and then proceeds to rapidly propose questions with multiple-choice answers.  Some residents have refused to participate and just hang up, while others have participated and report to the Paradise Watchdogs that the inquiries eventually mention “mining” and ask how the resident feels about “quarries.”  One resident of Church Road reported that the caller specifically asked her about the “Gibraltar Rock quarry”.

Local law enforcement has helped us by tracing the company to Santa Monica, California.  We have learned this company participates in political surveys, but their website is “blank”.

Is it likely that the Silvi Group, owners of Gibraltar Rock, Inc, has hired this research company to conduct the survey?  What do you think?

We recommend that you refuse to participate in the survey if the phone number: 200-200-0000 is on “caller ID” or the company with the name SP Net Research contacts you.
