Have you
heard what
the folks at Gibraltar Rock, Inc. are doing
now? They have
produced a colored, four-page brochure, which they are
mailing to local residents with promises of:
-
being a good neighbor
(they started digging illegally in 2009 and the Court
issued an injunction to stop all work on the property
because they continue to refuse to follow local and
state law – AND – their own mining permit)
-
economic benefits (the
president of the company testified under oath before our
zoning hearing board that they would not hire from this
area, and the maximum number of employees would be
15-20)
-
community partnership
(they promise the quarry’s employees would add value to
the local economy by spending a majority of their income
locally, when in reality it is likely the few employees
would be independent truck drivers who don’t live in
this area)
- .
. . and this one is really, really GOOD! The company
says they will “improve our surroundings”.
This is
from the same people who are
attempting to invade our local
“paradise” by:
-
constructing a 241-acre
quarry
-
taking away our natural
spring water
-
blasting cracks in the
foundations of our 20+ historical buildings, homes and
barns
-
crowding our roads with
200 heavy-duty trucks per day with an elementary school
one-half mile away
-
sentencing us to poor
air-quality for those with pulmonary problems and create
new pulmonary illnesses
-
constructing a hot-mix
asphalt plant that would give us “volatile organic
compounds” (VOCs)
-
causing great reduction in
our property values
-
dumping a few hundred
thousand gallons of quarry run-off into Swamp Creek
daily
Have
you finished laughing yet?
