Update

Gibraltar Rock, after having started mining last year in defiance of local law, has now been legally required to file a land development application. This was achieved with much legal work at the township level, legal help from "Ban the Quarry" lawyers and other notable lawyers in representing concerned residents of New Hanover.

Gibraltar Rock has filed the land development plan and is consistently challenging the legal rights of the township to ensure and enforce the ordinances and rules any other developer has to respect. In this case, it is especially troubling as Gibraltar Rock has shown contempt for following its own mining permit, obeying the restrictions imposed on them during the application processes and following their own water discharge permit.

Gilbraltar Rock, like any other developer, must meet all the requirements established to protect the environment and the rights of all other township residents. Enforcement of these restrictions and rules can only be accomplished if the township officials and residents remain vigilant in this fight and demand that all of the rules be enforced for this proposed quarry, now and in the future.
